Some of you may have seen the show ‘Hoarders’ or ‘Extreme Couponing’ and thought ‘That is ridiculous, I am NOT going to be like one of those people! Well, you don’t have to be! Remember, these are EXTREME cases-that is how they got on TV!! While there are some people who give couponing and stockpiling a bad reputation, the principles of it still work. It is really up to you how much you save, or how involved you want to get in cutting your monthly expenses so dramatically. Here are some basics on stockpiling and the benefits.
How Stockpiling Cuts Your Expenses.
When you stock up on the items that are on sale, free, or by using coupons can get ‘super’ cheap, you will not have to go and buy them later for full price.
This is very beneficial for packaged foods, dry foods, canned food, and pantry items that have expiration dates that last longer. It is also beneficial for beauty items, make-up, personal care items, and household items.
If you are a planner, and are aware of the amounts of items you and your family uses regularly, this will help you determine how much to buy.
Example-
John Frieda Shampoo and Conditioner with sale and coupons=$.50 (this is common)
I have 4 girls in the house who use shampoo and conditioner. We use 4 bottles a month.
If I buy 12 bottles, I will not have to buy shampoo or conditioner for 3 months! That will save me $15-$20 a month!
Imagine doing that with SEVERAL items!
This is how your expenses begin to decrease
It doesn’t happen immediately, but it will happen. it generally takes about 3 months to see a significant difference. Once you get a good stockpile of the many items you were used to paying full price or sale price for, you will need to shop less and less. Then you can spend less, or use the same money and buy more of the things you cannot stockpile as inexpensive like milk, produce, and meat.
You can also use the money to pay bills, save, or do something fun!
If your goal is to save money and stop spending so much at the grocery store, Target and Wal Mart, this will help you. I still shop at all those stores, but I get WAY more and spend WAY less!!

The women(and men) on the shows that buy tons of stuff and pay hardly any money actually spend HOURS of time planning and BUYING coupons online. It is not a representation of a ‘typical’ coupon shopper. Using coupons can help you DRAMATICALLY cut your grocery and household budget, and actually be able to get MORE items than you have ever been able to buy. Then you can maintain your spending at a lower amount and be able to use your money for other expenses or FUN stuff!!
It doesn’t happen overnight, but once you learn the basics and do it for a couple months, it gets easier and your savings get BIGGER!
