Smart & Final ONE Shopping Trip For ALL- One Trip & That’s It!

I went into Smart & Final today with my menu for the week and I was able to get EVERYTHING in ONE trip! I got Bulk size of what I needed lots of and individual items too!! No extra trips to any stores this week and I only spent $100!!

Here is what I bought so that you could see most of my menu items and how you can eat well for LESS. Planning helps- plus with the time I saved not having to go to a box store and a separate grocery store means I have more time to cook this week!

Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts were $1.77lb!!!

I grabbed a pack of these, a large bag of Romaine lettuce and a small bag of First Street croutons. Chicken Caesar Salads one night for dinner to keep it light!

I just LOVE (and so does my family) the 10 for $10 Beef Patties! Burgers are a family fave and this takes the work out of a BBQ. I don’t eat the buns and neither does my husband, so I am glad we can buy a small pack of buns so there isn’t any waste.
The First Street Brand is a real gem- the patties, the buns ,the sliced cheese-all the best prices but tastes great

The sale on Steak $5.77 lb (LIMIT 2) but this will feed a few and I will grill the chicken I didn’t use for the salads. If you haven’t tried the First Street Garlic Bread- TRY IT!!!! It is SOOOOOOO good!!

I bought the 30 pack of eggs and the First Street Bacon for breakfasts this week. They also have the Carb Balance Mission tortillas- which are hard to find, but my Smart & Final is the one for sure place I can always find them!! I make up breakfast burritos with these for the week and we can grab them to go!!

SO these are my main meals for the week. I was also able to grab a few different things for snacks for the kids. I also grabbed a few extra flavors of Snow Cone Syrup for Snow Cones to Beat the Heat this weekend!!!

What is Your Snack Hack ? 3 Tips For the Week + Enter to Win $25 from Smart & Final!

How are you all doing?? We are over here starting a new week of  our quarantine lifestyle!!
So how do you stay on a budget, feed your family at home, not get tired of eating the same things, AND stay on a budget??  Well I have some ideas and tips for you this month!! PLUS Smart & Final is giving YOU the opportunity to win a $25 Gift Card EVERY WEEK through the month of April!!

All you have to do is participate in their Snack Hack Posts in their Instagram stories!! Easy Right?
I just posted mine!

Here are 3 tips this week to make things a little easier on your self, your budget, and possibly more fun!

Tip #1
Make meals out of what you have already! You may not be able to make a full on fancy meal, but I have found that by using some items I have on hand I have made some items that the kids really like!
I had a can of First Street Chili (no beans) in the pantry and I had a bag of frozen fries in the freezer!
Made my kids chili cheese fries and they were SO HAPPY! Definitely not a meal I would have planned-but it is something my kids would have wanted to run through a drive-thru and buy (So I REALLY saved some money too!) Easy clean up too!

Tip #2
Make a Menu With What You Have
By making a menu of your meals, snack and desserts- and using tip #1 you can plan your meals out and stretch out the length between grocery store trips- then just shop for the items you may need to use up what you have.

Tip #3
Get Your Family Involved!
When this whole thing started I planned these great meals and we had big dinners every night and it was great, but then…
-we got tired of cleaning for an hour after dinner
-we weren’t as hungry for dinner because activity levels are lower
-we got tired of eating our usual dinners

When my kids started saying what they would like to eat, it made them willing to help cook and clean. When they saw we had fries and chili- they were happy because they like to eat those items from fast food restaurants. This made them think about what other foods they missed and we started using what we had to create a variety of items that were FUN and different.

Follow them- add your Snack Hack to your story or post and tag @smartandfinal and #MySmartandFinal for a chance to win!!! Have FUN with it!!!!!

5 Ways to Save Money on Groceries and Shop Less During the Quarantine + Today’s Fox 40 News Segment!

Ok- who is trying their best to stay home during this quarantine but keeps running out of something and needs to go to the store?? In my efforts to find toilet paper I have forgot Half & Half, Coffee Filters and a couple other things.  Here is a list of ways to eliminate multiple shopping trips throughout the week that will keep you out of the stores AND help you save money!

  1.  Menu Planning
I know it may be a hard concept for some, but if you can take the time right now to think out the next week of meals and snack, you can go to the store ONCE and be done.  START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY- and build from there – you may just need 1 or 2 items to throw a meal together and not have to buy as much. You may like going to Costco but then you may still need to go to other stores for the fill-in items. If you can get everything you need at ONE store, that is even better  Smart & Final has the large items like Costco but also regular grocery items as well. I have been able to get my whole list there before. Grocery Outlet has worked well, and also Walmart and Target- but I have had to deal with larger crowds.
Here is a basic printable for a menu and shopping list– if you google “free menu plan shopping list”, there are so many to choose from so you can find one that works for you.
  2. Make a List
If you are heading into the stores, MAKE A LIST. Once you have made a menu, make a list. Don;t forget to put things like foil, oil, butter, half & half or any staples you need to make everything. If you are shopping at a store that sells your household and beauty items then add those too. Don’t panic if your totals end up being higher at the store when you do this- You are shopping long term, and this will still be less than the multiple trips you take- those add up, especially when you impulse buy or are hungry when you shop.
Tip: Once you make a menu and list- take a picture of it, that way if you go to the store and forget it-you have it on your phone= I learned this the hard way!!
  3. Utilize Pick Up and Delivery Services
Instacart has the options of almost all grocery stores and you can choose what you want from where. Is there a fee-YES, but you are not using your time and gas, and you won’t be in the stores with other people. Some grocery stores have their own pick-up and delivery services as well. In the past you may not have wanted the fees, but now it may be worth it because you are quarantined at home. If stores have a pick-up option you will be able to just drive up and have them load your car for you also.
  4. Utilize App Coupons and Cash Back Apps
Before you shop, if your store has an app- load the coupons to your card. If you use Cash Back apps like Ibotta, Checkout 51 or Fetch, check through those and see if what you like you can save or get cash back on them. A quick scan through the coupons or a quick picture of your receipt can get you great savings with minimal effort. For the apps I use all the time and how to Get and use them GO HERE
  5. Stick to Your Budget
If you decide what you have to spend BEFORE you go shopping you will be less likely to buy unnecessary items. If you order your groceries online you will be able to see your total and know if you need to take out or are able to add anything else.

I used to hear from people that they just don’t have the time to do some of these things, but if you do take the time now while you have it- it gets EASIER. Then when this quarantine is all over you will have developed some money saving habits that will last!!!

If you have ANY questions or need someone to walk you through menu planning, budgeting, online grocery ordering just email me Diana@pantryoverflow.com I would love to help you!!

March is Frozen Food Month- Great Deal at Smart & Final-$10 Back When You Spend $40!!

March is FROZEN FOOD MONTH!!!

For my family it is one of the busiest months of the year so it is perfect timing!!

I made sure my freezer was thinned out-and boy am I glad I did!

Smart & Final has a deal running ALL MONTH LONG-spend $40 on participating frozen food items and get $10 off your next grocery purchase (which I used on NON frozen items!!!!)

I brought my kids with me because I have learned that if they aren’t going to eat it, it doesn’t matter what kind of deal I got! Also, I want to make sure they will make it when I am busy this month so I am not worried if they are eating or not!

Some items are our staples from Smart & Final- their First Street fried rice (they have Vegetable and Chicken) are our FAVORITE! We also get their Orange Chicken and Teriyaki often because it is so good!So of course I made sure I grabbed $40 worth of JUST this so that we wouldn’t be tempted to run to Panda Express on busy sports nights!!!Make sure you look for the “Participating Items” labels- not ALL frozen food counts- but most of it does.

Now my freezer is nice and full and my kids are so happy!

Here they are choosing their items -and I picked a couple things too!

Don’t forget to go to SmartandFinal.com and sign up for their email coupons! I got a 12 Pack of Maruchuan Noodles for $.01 with a $25 Purchase!!! One of my kids was more excited about that than the frozen food!
