Whether you are a Grinch fan or not… make your Christmas movies and/or books memorable!
Instead of putting the movie on for the kids come up with ways to make it not just another Christmas movie, or not just one more time watching the same movie.
In my house I have 5 kids left-ages 9-18. We are busy. Some of us have different work, volunteer, school, sports, and college schedules. When we do finally have time together-nobody wants to really take much effort to do anything (especially clean up after it).
Since we all like watching the Grinch movie (some the Jim Carrey version, and some of us like the cartoon). I decided on a couple of desserts that fit the theme of the movie-but are VERY EASY to make!!
I did not want to take the time or the clean the mess from a homemade sugar cookie recipe- Here is what I did, and they turn out SO SOFT!
Roll into balls and put heart in the middle (cover in powdered sugar if you would like)
Bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees.
1 Bag of Microwave Popcorn (Or if you are way more talented than me-Fresh Popped Popcorn)
Pop Popcorn and place in a bowl or casserole sized pan or dish.
In a saucepan-melt 3 Tbsp. Butter
Ad 1 1/2 cups of mini marshmallows
Add 3 drops Green Food Coloring and 2 Drops Yellow (makes it more “Grinchy”)
When the marshmallows have dissolved drizzle your green sauce over the popcorn.
Sprinkle in Mini Marshmallows
Sprinkle in Candy Hearts (or Red M&Ms)
This will harden pretty fast and you can divide into serving sizes.
Enjoy the movie with your themed snacks!
Your kids WILL REMEMBER watching the Grinch this time!
You can do this with all kinds of movies-
Frosty the Snowman- Snowman Cookies, Marshmallow Snowman, Snowflake cookies
Christmas Tree Decorating? Make triangle brownies and decorate them with green frosting and sprinkles!
Every year we read the book The Candymaker’s Gift-Legend of the Candy Cane.
I Make Hot Cocoa (yep-the packets) and stir them with candy canes!
I also make some red cookie dough an put pepperming Hershey kisses in the middles
And- Melted white chocolate chips with crushed candy canes is an easy way to make Christmas Bark
ALL CANDY CANE THEMED desserts. Then I can read the book while the kids enjoy their treats-followed by the hanging of the special candy cane ornament on the tree! We have been doing that for YEARS and YEARS and the kids look forward to it each time!
