Reader Questions-What if My Area Does Not have Double Coupons?

How can I save money if my stores do NOT double coupons?

I think that the TLC Extreme couponining show is very inspiring, but in some ways it does not represent ‘normal’ couponing. On these shows they do shop at stores that ‘double’ their coupons and they save an extreme amount. However, it is still possible without double coupons-I know because I do it all the time.

I live in Northern California where there is not an Albertsons, Kroger, or any other coupon doubling stores. So, how do I still manage to save so much?

1. Stacking my coupons.
Safeway, Raleys, Target, Rite Aid, Walgreens, and Save Mart all have STORE COUPONS that are either in their ad, or on their websites. As long as the coupon states the fact that it is a STORE coupon, you can use that AND a manufacturer coupon.

Example: Safeway has a coupon in their ad (in-ad coupon) It says Ken’s Salad Dressing $1.19 Limit 4. If you have the $1 off Ken’s salad dressing coupon, you can get 4 bottles for $.19 by using BOTH coupons.
When I get the ads that have coupons, I immediately check to see how much it would be if I add my manufacturer coupon with it. If it is a great savings, then I buy as much as I can.

2. Using the Right Coupon with the Right Sale
By being wise with the use of my coupons, and waiting for the right time, I save more than just using my coupons when I first get them. This weekend there was a coupon for $1 off Ronzoni Pasta. If I used the coupon this week, it is priced $1.99, it has gone on sale regularly for $1 , so I will save that coupon, and use it when they are on sale to get them free. Then, because I had multiple coupons, I can stock up while they are free.

3.Taking advantage of Drugstores and Their Reward Programs
Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreens do not have a full grocery store inside, but they do carry some of the items my family uses regularly. When they are on sale there I try to buy them frequently with my coupons to stock up. When I earn +Up Rewards, Register Rewards, or Extra Bucks, I can use them towards eggs, milk, or other groceries, or because I use them for other items, I have more cash to spend on items I do not have coupons for.
